The main research interests are:
• automation and artificial intelligence in radiotherapy, with particular focus on quality assurance and treatment planning optimization;
• physics of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT);
• physics of total marrow irradiation (TMI) in hematologic malignancies;
• risk management and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) in radiotherapy;
• proton therapy physics.
He has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics (since 2011), Physica Medica (since 2016), and Physics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology (since 2023). He has been a member of the working group of the Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità) on quality and safety in radiotherapy since 2023, contributing to the development of recommendations in this field.
He is a member of ESTRO, EFOMP, and AIFM. Within ESTRO, he contributed to the drafting of the guidelines on spinal SBRT (2023–2024), coordinates the technical guidelines on SBRT (2025–2026), and has been a member of the ESTRO School for Image-Guided Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy since 2024. Within AIFM, he is coordinator of the Italian working group on SBRT physics and dosimetry, a member of the Scientific Committee (since 2018), and AIFM representative to ESTRO (since 2019).
Since 2008, he has been Medical Physicist at the Department of Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery, IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital, Rozzano, Italy. He is the author of more than 180 publications in international journals in the field of physics applied to medicine.
